Sacramento, Calif. – The USL Championship has announced that Sacramento Republic FC defender Jack Gurr has been named to the Team of the Week for his performance in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Eastern Conference opponent Detroit City FC.
Playing in front of a home crowd of over 10,000 fans at Heart Health Park, Gurr set up the match’s only goal just 14 minutes into the game. Memo Rodriguez swung a long corner to the far side, where Gurr brought the ball down and delivered a perfect cross to Jared Timmer, who flicked a header past the Detroit City keeper for the game-winner.

Gurr stayed involved throughout the night, finishing with five chances created — including a cross to Cal Jennings that nearly doubled Sacramento’s lead in the 41st minute, and a give-and-go with Blake Willey in the 81st that led to another good look on goal. The assist was Gurr’s third of the 2026 season.
Sacramento’s defense was equally sharp, holding Detroit City — the league’s top-ranked defense entering the match — to just one shot on target and claiming its eighth clean sheet of the season. The win moved Republic FC into a tie for fourth place in the USL Championship table.
Republic FC returns to action next Sunday, hosting San Antonio FC in a nationally televised match on ESPN2. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. at Heart Health Park, where the club will partner with UC Davis Health for Superhero Day in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, featuring superhero appearances, kid-friendly activities, and a mask giveaway. A Superhero-themed shirt and scarf featuring artwork by pediatric cancer patients and Republic FC players will also be available in the Team Store. Tickets for the match are available at SacRepublicFC.com/tickets.
