SACRAMENTO, Calif. (February 10, 2016) – Sacramento Republic FC and the San Jose Earthquakes have renewed their affiliation for the 2016 USL and MLS seasons. The arrangement provides development opportunities for both clubs and has featured the loan of five players to Sacramento Republic FC over the past two seasons.
“Our affiliation is just one aspect of the relationship we have built with the Earthquakes since we launched as a club,” said Sacramento Republic FC Co-Founder and President Warren Smith. “The past two years, the Earthquakes have been amazing to us, not only by loaning players, but also by being a partner in our growth as an organization and sharing our vision to build the game in Northern California.”
Sacramento Republic FC and the San Jose Earthquakes first announced their affiliation prior to the beginning of the USL club’s inaugural season in 2014. During their inaugural season, Sacramento Republic FC received four players on loan from the Quakes for varying lengths of time. Sacramento-area natives Adam Jahn and Tommy Thompson were among those loaned, with Jahn scoring six USL goals in 2014, third most for Sacramento Republic FC.
During the 2015 season, Sacramento Republic FC received three players on loan leading into the final third of the season. Thompson, JJ Koval and Mark Sherrod joined Sacramento Republic FC with five matches to go, providing a spark at the end of the season and leading into the playoffs. Thompson scored a goal and added two assists, and Sherrod added a goal of his own.
“We are really looking forward to our working relationship, on and off the field, with the Quakes,” said Sacramento Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “We are looking to support each other throughout the 2016 season including when we welcome them to Bonney Field in 10-days time.”
