LFCU21s got on the score sheet early when forward Ryan Kent scored in the 5th minute. Kent was able to beat Republic FC’s offside trap and sent a one-touch left-footed lob shot off of a perfectly timed through ball in the air from midfielder Kevin Stewart, putting LFCU21s up 1-0.
Republic FC found the equalizer in the 40th minute after they were rewarded a free kick 30 yards away from goal. Forward Daniel Trickett-Smith promptly sent a right-footed curling shot into the top right corner of the goal. LFCU21s keeper Shamal George was able to get a glove to it, but the shot was too well-placed and too strong to the top shelf from Trickett-Smith and it found the back of the net evening the score 1-1 going into the half.
LFCU21s pulled ahead again in the 77th minute when midfielder Cameron Brannagan showed great skill inside the box. Brannagan took on multiple Republic FC defenders as he showcased his dribbling skills before sending a right-footed shot from inside the box up and over substitute keeper Justin Vom Steeg. The shot sailed into the upper right corner of the net putting LFCU21s up 2-1.
Republic FC spent the next ten minutes searching for the equalizer. Second half-substitute forward Mackenzie Pridham came very close to equalizing in the 85th minute. Pridham received a cross from Harry Williams which he chested towards the near post but put it just wide and out of play.
The equalizer finally came in the 90th minute when Williams dribbled down the middle of the pitch, taking on two defenders. Williams calmly found a shooting lane and sent a left-footed shot to George’s left and snuck the ball inside the post and into the back of the net to tie the score.
Republic FC will return to USL action on Saturday, May 28 when they take on Swope Park Rangers KC at Bonney Field. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com.
