On Friday. the City of Sacramento released the Draft Subsequent Environmental Impact Report (SEIR) on the Railyards Specific Plan Update, which includes Republic FC’s MLS stadium. Additionally, the city is hosting a Public Open House for the public to discuss the plan on Wednesday, June 15 at 6 p.m. at the Sacramento library.
The release of the review represents a critical step towards the development of the innovation district at the Railyards, which will be anchored by Republic FC’s soccer stadium. As the latest step for Republic FC and the city of Sacramento in the quest to receive an MLS team, the club is encouraging fans to attended the public open house and workshop to show their support and learn more about theSubsequent Environmental Impact Report (EIR).
A private business venture led by the Downtown Railyard Venture with the support of the city, the Railyards are expected to be a national model for how to build cities in the 21st century: diversely programmed, transit-accessible and technically wired. The project not only includes plans for a soccer-specific MLS stadium, but also plans for new healthcare facilities, parks, hotels and residential buildings.
A projected 20,000-23,000 employees are projected to be a part of the resurging Railyards, converting the currently empty space into a regional job center. In addition to projects such as Republic FC’s stadium and a private hospital, there are also a projected 6,000-10,000 residential units in the plans, with a part of those slated as affordable housing units.
Republic FC fans and the general public are encouraged to attend the Public Open House on Wednesday, June 15, where the public will have the opportunity to discuss proposed projects and items on the EIR report with City staff, environmental consultants and project applicants. Members of the public will be able to have one on one discussions with staff, rather than having a formal hearing.
