Prior to Republic FC’s match against Rio Grande Valley FC Toros at 8 p.m. on Saturday, there will be a women’s match between the California Storm and Primero de Mayo. Kickoff is 4 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used soccer equipment (clothing, balls, cleats, cones, etc.) to the match to support Second Touch Soccer, a local soccer charity that works to supply soccer equipment to those who cannot afford it.
To-date, Republic FC fans have donated more than 1,000 pieces of soccer gear, in addition to monetary donations, in support of Second Touch Soccer.
Gates to Saturday’s matches open at 3:45 p.m. The 4 p.m. women’s match will feature United States Women’s National Team midfielder Brandi Chastain and former Brazil Women’s National Team midfielder Sissi. Afterwards, there will be a Q&A session at 6:30 p.m. with Chastain and Sissi prior to the Republic FC match, which kicks off at 8 p.m.
Fans with tickets to the Republic FC vs. Rio Grande Valley FC Toros match will be able to attend the women’s match and Q&A session at no additional charge.
Fans’ donations of new or gently used soccer equipment for Second Touch Soccer may be dropped off at the donation bins located at Bonney Field. Additionally, fans may drop off donations at Republic FC’s Headquarters located at 2421 17th Street during weekday business hours and on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
