Sacramento Republic FC is expanding their selection of camps and clinics presented by Raley’s and Bel Air. This summer the club is set to host their Republic FC Elite Camp for Competitive Players, which will run Monday, July 25 through Thursday, July 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. daily at Mather Sports Complex.
The camp is specifically designed for boy and girl players ages 7-12 that currently compete at a competitive club team level in the Sacramento region.
“It’s a great opportunity for players to gain exposure with Academy coaches, to be seen by these Academy coaches for more than one tryout session or two tryout sessions,” said Republic FC Vice President of Football Administrations Kevin Goldthwaite. “It allows them to hopefully create a good relationship with those Academy coaches and it’s a definite way, as a player if you’re interested in the Academy, it’s a great stepping stone or a great step in the right direction to get involved in the Academy.”
The camp will cover combination play, ball mastery and finishing and will also include 1v1, 2v2 and group play exercises with instruction on developing more skills on the ball with dribbling, passing and shooting. The co-ed four-day camp is open to all competitive players of all positions ages 7-12.
Camps and clinics designed for competitive youth players are just another step in Republic FC’s commitment to developing options for up and coming players in the Sacramento area. The region has already produced numerous professional soccer players, including Goldthwaite—who passed through he ranks of San Juan Soccer Club—before heading to Notre Dame to play collegiate soccer and then going on to play in MLS.
For players looking to get to the next level, Republic FC’s Elite Camp for Competitive Players presented by Raley’s and Bel Air presents another way to push towards making the cut for the Republic FC Academy team, which has already exceeded expectations during the inaugural year with the U-15/16s and U-17/18s both qualifying for playoffs, and the U-17/18s advancing to the quarterfinals.
“We want to start to focus and utilizing our academy coaches on getting them out in the community and hopefully elevating the game in each little area of town,” said Goldthwaite. “We’re just sort of slowly starting the process of going into certain geographic areas but we want to expose as many players in the community to the staff we have and hopefully create a good relationship with the community and that we are educating them with some of the best coaches in the area.”
Registration for Republic FC’s Elite Camp for Competitive Players, which runs July 25-28, is now open at www.sacrepublicfc.com.
