Sacramento Republic FC Academy U-15/16s forward Shaft Brewer Jr. and U-17/18s goalkeeper Cameron Douglas are two of the 22 players called in by U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team head coach Omid Namazi for the Vaclav Jezek Tournament in Pilsen, Czech Republic.
The tournament runs Aug. 10-21, with the U.S. opening the tournament against Slovakia on Aug. 16. The U.S. will then play Hungary on Aug. 17, and finish group play against Russia on Aug. 19.
This is Brewer’s third call-up to a U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team since joining Republic FC’s Academy during their inaugural season. Brewer was part of the U-18 Men’s National Team training camp roster that defeated their Club Tijuana counterpart, notching the assist in the match-winning goal during the U-18s 2-1 win in April. In his second call-up with the U-18s, Brewer scored his first goal in a 4-1 win against Universidad de Guadalajara during another training camp in June.
Brewer was been an integral part of the Republic FC Academy U-15/16 team, leading the team with 12 goals on the season.
For Douglas, this is his second call-up this season to a U.S. Youth National Team. The Republic FC Academy goalkeeper was also a part of the U.S. U-18s training camp in June in Mexico. Douglas was in goal in the U-18s 4-1 win against Universidad de Guadalajara.
Douglas, who was called up from the Republic FC U-15/16s team after a series of injuries left the U-17/18s short on goalkeepers, shined in Republic FC Academy’s inaugural season. After starting in 25 regular season appearances and helping the U-18s advance to the 2016 U.S Soccer Development Academy Playoff quarterfinals, Douglas was named to the West Conference Starting XI at the U.S. Soccer Development Academy End-of-Year Awards.
To-date, seven Academy players have been called up to one of three national teams. Along with Brewer and Douglas, Republic FC U-13/14s midfielder Roberto Hategan, U-15/16s goalkeeper Mason Finnell, and U-17/18s defender David Burns and Nabilai Kibunguchy have all been called to various levels of the U.S. Youth National Team.
Outside of call-ups to the U.S. youth national team, U/17-18s defender Mackenzie Harrington was called up to the Canada U-18s team, while U-13/14s midfielder Graysen Garber was called up to Guam’s U-14s team this past March.
The USA will look to continue its winning streak after defeating Chivas (4-0), Universidad de Guadalajara (4-1) and Atlas (1-0) during a training camp in Mexico in early June.
