SACRAMENTO, Calif. (August 11, 2016) –Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a contract with forward Wilson Kneeshaw for the 2016 USL season. Kneeshaw played most recently with Blyth Spartans AFC of the Northern Premier League in England.
“Wilson is a player who showed extreme promise early in his career. He was signed by Middlesbrough FC and great things were predicted,” said Republic FC Director of Football Graham Smith. “We have signed him for his potential. Our football staff assessed him and were impressed by his willingness to put himself under the microscope during the assessment period. We believe that he, along with other developmental players at the club, show great promise for future of Sacramento Republic FC.”
Kneeshaw made 22 appearances in two seasons with Middlesbrough FC U23s, scoring two goals and recording three assists before signing with ACS Poli Timişoara, a Romanian first division club. He appeared in eight matches with ACS Poli Timişoara before returning to England. Kneeshaw joined Darlington FC of the Northern Premier League, appearing in four matches and scoring one goal. He then moved to Blyth Spartans AFC where he had his most successful season, scoring eight goals in 20 appearances, including a five-goal performance against Ramsbottom United on Feb. 13, 2016.
Kneeshaw will join Republic FC for training the week of August 15. Republic FC will travel to the Midwest to take on Saint Louis FC on Saturday, August 13. Kickoff is 5:30 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
