Republic FC wasted no time in settling in on the road, attacking the Saint Louis FC defense early and often. In just the 5th minute, Republic FC scored their first of a season-high four goals in the match. Midfielder Tommy Thompson drove the ball down the right side of the pitch and to the touchline. Thompson then crossed the ball toward the back post, where a streaking JJ Koval found open space in the middle of the box. Koval redirected the Thompson corner into the left side of the net, giving Republic FC an early 1-0 lead.
Republic FC was not done there, however, finding the back of the net again, just six minutes later in the 11th minute. Midfielder Matt LaGrassa chased down a long ball right before it hit the touchline on the left side of the box. LaGrassa then sent a ball back to the middle to Cameron Iwasa who was making a following run. Iwasa took the ball and one-touched a shot past the onrushing Saint Louis FC goalkeeper Ryan Thompson and into the goal to double Republic FC’s lead to 2-0.
Republic FC would strike again six minutes later in the 17th minute, taking a commanding 3-0 lead. LaGrassa and Iwasa were once again involved, playing a one-two at the top of the box before LaGrassa sent an arching ball from the top left side of the box to the back post. Octavio Guzman was making a back-post run and flicked his one-touch shot into the near post and past Thompson, giving Republic FC a 3-0 lead.
Saint Louis did not lay down and began to fight back. In the 26th minute, Saint Louis FC forward Irvin Herrera ran down a long ball on the left side of the pitch. Herrera then centered the ball to fellow forward Mike Ambersley at the top of the box. Ambersley then settled the ball before sending a low, grounded shot to the bottom right corner of the goal and past a diving Evan Newton, making the score 3-1.
Saint Louis appeared to score again near the close of the half. Defender Mitchell Lurie took a free kick from the right side of the pitch about 40 yards from goal. Lurie’s free kick found the head of midfielder Tyler David who flicked the ball toward the back post. Defender James Musa, who had beat his man on the left side of the box, finished the shot, sneaking the ball into the near post, but Musa was signaled offside, ending the half with Republic FC leading 3-1.

Republic FC came out strong again in the second half, finding their season-high fourth goal of the match in the 57th minute. Tommy Thompson again made a run down the pitch, this time to the right side of the box, sending a cross to the back post right before he reached the touchline. Thompson’s cross found a wide open Iwasa who was unmarked about six yards from the goal. Iwasa then headed the ball into the left side of the net, opening a 4-1 lead for Republic FC.
Saint Louis would continue to attack for the remainder of the match, trying to find a miracle comeback. In the 74th minute, they would find the goal for the second time. Substitute forward Jordan Roberts attacked just outside the top left corner of the box before taking a few touches toward the top of the box. Roberts found just enough space for a shot and unleashed a rocket toward goal that grazed Newton’s hand but was too powerful, passing by the keeper’s hand and into the right side of the net, making the score 4-2.
Saint Louis would find the net for the third and final time in the 90th minute. Former Republic FC midfielder Chad Bond stepped up to take a free kick after Herrera was taken down about five yards outside of the box. Bond took a free kick that barely cleared the wall and snuck just under the crossbar, giving Saint Louis their third and final goal, for a final score of 4-3 for Republic FC.
