
Sacramento Republic FC midfielder Tommy Thompson was named to the USL Team of the Week for week 22, while midfielder Danny Barrera and forward Cameron Iwasa were named to the USL Team of the Week Bench.
Thompson earned his Team of the Week selection after recording a goal and an assist in Republic FC’s 4-0 win over Portland Timbers 2 on Saturday, Aug. 20.
This is the second time Thompson has been named to Team of the Week this season. He earned USL Player of the Week honors in week 8 after scoring a brace in Republic FC’s 2-0 shutout win against Seattle Sounders FC 2. Thompson currently has three goals on the season and three assists.
Iwasa earned Team of the Week bench honors a week after being named to the Team of the Week. The forward scored the second goal of the night against Timbers 2. For his part, Barrera was named to the Team of the Week bench for his overall performance in Republic FC’s 4-0 win and for his assist on Thompson’s goal.
This is also the consecutive Team of the Week selection for Republic FC, after midfielder Matt LaGrassa and Iwasa were selected in Week 21 for their performances in Republic FC’s 4-3 win against Saint Louis FC.
Thompson is joined on the USL Team of the Week by goalkeeper Callum Irving (Rio Grande Valley FC), defenders Aron Mkungilwa (FC Montreal), Patrick Slogic (Charlotte Independence), and O’Brian Woodbine, midfielders Rafael Castillo (San Antonio FC0, Sofiane Tergou (Rochester Rhinos) and Timo Pitter (OKC Energy FC), forwards Dzenan Catic (Rio Grande Valley FC), Brian Brown (Charlotte Independence) and Thomas Sanner (Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2).
