Sacramento Republic FC will award two more Glory Glory Sacramento Fund grants to two Sacramento region nonprofits, StudentReach and College Track. Both organizations have a mission of helping underserved students reach academic success.
College Track is a college completion program that works to empower students from underserved communities, on both an academic level and a personal level. The Sacramento chapter opened its doors in 2014, and is currently serving almost 120 students, 88 percent of whom will be the first to pursue a four-year college education.
The program welcomed a new group of 60 freshmen this past June. This new group will join the returning College Track sophomores and juniors for school year programming beginning this month. The college completion program guides students through all aspects of the college application and selection process. College Track Sacramento will hire a College Completion Director to implement and lead the College Track college completion model in Sacramento. The grant will help make this happen.
StudentReach provides services and programs with Life Coaching Services to Sacramento area students. The ALIVE Life Coaching program works with students who come from at-risk backgrounds, such as homelessness, academic failure, refugee status, foster care and other at-risk behaviors. The program provides students with leadership skills, job skills and college prep they will need to succeed through adulthood.
StudentReach will use their grant to service two more school districts for the upcoming 2016/2017 school year. During the 2015/2016 school year, StudentReach served approximately 200 students, doubling the previous number of students, with Grant Union High School most recently adding this program for their freshman class. With the Glory Glory Sacramento grant, StudentReach will serve an additional 200 students in Sacramento for this next school year. The grant will go towards monthly Life Coach stipends, two semester camping trips for 200 students, monthly local extra-curricular outings for 200 students, such as trips to museums and more.
Both College Reach and StudentReach were recognized during halftime of the Republic FC vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 match on Saturday, August 27. Each organization will also be paired with a Republic FC player who will serve as a mentor or spokesperson for the nonprofit.
The Glory Glory Sacramento Fund was founded in May 2016 to celebrate and elevate nonprofits that share the same indomitable spirit as our region. The Fund provides individual grants up to $20,000 for nonprofits selected. Since May, the Fund has distributed over $200,000 to eleven non-profits, including College Track and StudentReach. These non-profits include Powerhouse Science Center, La Familia Counseling Center, Sacramento Regional Conversation Corps, Cristo Rey High School, Community Outreach Academy, 916 Ink, Waking the Village, Street Soccer USA and the Capital Dance Project.
