SACRAMENTO, Calif. (September 2, 2016) – Sacramento Republic FC have loaned midfielders Max Alvarez, Joaquin Rivas and Chase Minter and forward Christian Chaney to the USL club’s MLS affiliate, the San Jose Earthquakes. The midfielders join the Earthquakes for their friendly match against CF Pachuca. The players will return to Republic FC following the friendly match at Avaya Stadium on Sept. 3. Chaney’s loan is pending USL approval.
“First and foremost, Pachuca is a formidable team, playing in an exceptionally good league. Any player, given the opportunity, would jump at the chance to play a club of that stature,” said Republic FC Director of Football Graham Smith. “The very fact that they will be playing for the Quakes means that there is a platform on which they can demonstrate their abilities. They will be playing in an environment away from their daily training routine with us and they will be able to use the experience as a barometer of where they are at in comparison to both MLS and Liga MX players. It is gratifying to know that Dominic Kinnear is happy to bring in Republic FC players and give them this chance. I am a great believer in the loan system, having seen its effect on players such as Matt LaGrassa, Tommy Thompson and Adam Jahn, and hopefully our players will benefit accordingly.”
Alvarez has appeared in 15 USL matches this season, including three starts, recording an assist. Rivas and Minter each have six USL appearances this season, including two starts. Minter spent the month of August on loan with Tulsa Roughnecks FC, making three substitute appearances and playing 72 minutes. Chaney signed with Republic FC on Aug. 12 and has not made an appearance.
Republic FC currently sit in first place in the USL Western Conference with just four matches remaining in the USL regular season. They will fight to maintain their standing when they take on playoff contenders, Orange County Blues FC, on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Bonney Field. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com.
