Sacramento Republic FC defender Elliott Hord has been named to the USL Team of the Week for week 24. This is Hord’s first Team of the Week recognition after just three appearances with Republic FC since signing with the club on Aug. 19.
Hord earned his Team of the Week selection for his performance in Republic FC’s 2-1 win against Orange County Blues FC. Republic FC was tied 1-1 with the Blues in the 85th minute when Hord sent in a perfect cross after a great run down the right flank. Forward Harry Williams found himself unmarked in front of goal, settled the cross and shot the ball past Blues goalkeeper Brandon Miller to score the match-winning goal.
With the win, Republic FC became the first team in the USL Western Conference to clinch a spot in the 2016 USL Playoffs. Republic FC also remained in first place in the West, two points ahead of the surging Rio Grande Valley FC.
Hord joined Republic FC on Aug. 19 and has quickly integrated himself into the squad. The Republic FC defender made his first appearance on Aug. 24 in Republic FC’s 1-0 win at Orange County Blues FC. He made his first start in Republic FC’s following match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Aug. 27.
The 25-year-old defender joined Republic FC from PDL side Fresno Fuego. Collegiately, Hord played for the UC Davis Men’s Soccer team, where he appeared in 67 matches over four seasons with the Aggies. Hord also played abroad for Swedish third division club Yxhults IK during the 2015 season.
This is the fifth straight week that a Republic FC has been recognized on the USL Team of the Week. Since week 20, five different players, including Hord, have been named to the Team of the Week.
