Republic FC are crowned Western Conference Regular Season Champions
For the first time in club history, and since the USL conference split in 2015, Sacramento Republic FC were crowned the USL Western Conference Regular Season Champions after clinching the top spot in the west.
Republic FC finished at the top of a tight Western Conference table with a 14-6-10 overall record and 52 points, one point ahead of second-placed Rio Grande Valley FC Toros. The win allowed Republic FC to enter the Western Conference playoffs as the top seed in the West and guaranteed home pitch advantage for as far as they advanced in the playoffs against Western Conference opponents.

Republic FC entered the last match of the 2016 USL regular season versus Tulsa with 49 points, the experience of 2015 and knowledge that they needed to earn a win and a draw or loss for Colorado Switchbacks, also at 49 points. If the Switchbacks won, Republic FC and the Switchbacks would end in a tie on the standings and the latter would earn the top spot on goal difference. If Republic FC lost, the regular season conference title would be up for grabs.
