With the win, Reno took the clear lead in the all-time series with Republic. Sacramento now holds a 1-3-1 record against Reno with the Nevadan club holding a 9-7 goal differential advantage.
Republic FC will look to return the favor on Wednesday after recording an impressive 3-1 road victory over Phoenix Rising FC. Iwasa’s goal gives him five in USL play, while Bijev tallied his second and Kneeshaw opened his scoring account for the year. Carlos Rodriguez led the team in clearances and also added an assist on Iwasa’s goal, his second of the year. Matjasic assisted Bijev’s goal and Bijev assisted Kneeshaw’s goal, moving the Liverpool product into a tie with Iwasa for a team-leading three assists.
Reno comes into the match on an eight-match unbeaten streak in all competitions. The club hosted Seattle Sounders FC 2 on Saturday and came away with a 1-1 draw. Jerry van Ewijk recorded the lone goal as a second-half substitute. Reno advanced to the Third Round of this year’s Open Cup by way of a 7-3 win over Portland Timbers U-23 at Greater Nevada Field.
