After facing them twice in the month of June, Republic FC kicks off the month of August against familiar foe Fresno FC. Meeting for their third and final regular season match this year, Sacramento looks to lock up the 2018 Highway 99 Derby with a victory against the expansion team.

Sacramento last suffered a loss on June 30 during their Saturday evening match with Fresno FC at Chukchansi Park. Through the first 37 minutes of play, the score remained even until the Foxes took a lead in the 38th. A cheeky back-heel by Rony Argueta slid through the SRFC defense where Juan Pablo Caffa beat keeper Josh Cohen for the 1-0 lead. Villyan Bijev nearly equalized eight minutes after the half with a timely tackle and breakaway, but unfortunately his shot was blocked. The teams battled through the 89th but Fresno was able to put the match out of reach with Franck Tayou’s 60-plus-yard laser which caught Cohen out of his box and locked up the 2-0 final.

The expansion team’s win over the Quails elevated Fresno’s line to 5-7-7 on the season before FFC locked down wins in their two subsequent matches. A pair of victories over Portland and Phoenix pushed Fresno FC to 28 points on the season before the club split points with OKC Energy FC in a scoreless draw on July 25, and Tulsa Roughnecks FC in a 1-1 final on July 28.
Home & Away Splits
Fresno FC has fared better at home this season, adding to their point tally in nine of eleven played at Chukchansi Park (5-2-4). Most FFC’s losses have come on the road (2-5-5); however as of late, the Foxes have added to their away draw totals, earning points in seven of twelve games away from home.
Player to Watch
Fresno FC center back Ramon Martin Del Campo wrapped up the month of July with his second USL Team of the Week selection of the season. The 25-year-old put in strong performances against OKC Energy FC and Tulsa Roughnecks, winning 16 of 20 duels and making 21 clearances in his minutes played, which has helped anchor the Foxes’ back line as they continue to make a push for the playoffs. Del Campo, who just last year led Ottawa Fury FC in clearances and blocks, has continued his defensive success with FFC this season, ranking first on the club in clearances (115), blocks (10) and aerial duels won (76) while placing within the top-five in duels won (117), interceptions (27), tackles (28) and tackles won (21).
