SACRAMENTO, Calif. (August 10, 2018) — Sacramento Republic FC will look to remain undefeated against Rio Grande Valley FC when the Toros come to town on Saturday, August 11. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Papa Murphy’s Park and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Saturday’s match is the second and final time Republic FC and Rio Grande Valley FC will face off during the regular season. Sacramento rallied from two goals down to draw 2-2 with RGVFC in their visit to H-E-B Park earlier this season. Republic FC is unbeaten against the Toros since the Texan side began USL play in 2016 (3-0-3).
Republic FC (11-5-7, 40 points) enter the match on a five-game unbeaten streak following a 1-0 win at home over Fresno FC last weekend. Villyan Bijev scored his fourth goal of the season—a stunning strike from the edge of the box—to clinch the season series against the Foxes. His performance against his hometown club earned him USL Team of the Week honors for the second time this season.
Sacramento’s Cameron Iwasa comes into the match tied with Rodrigo Lopez for the all-time record for most goals scored across all competitions in club history (26). If he scores again on Saturday night, Iwasa will become sole owner of the record.
Republic FC has lost just once at home this season, a 3-2 loss to Reno 1868 FC back on May 12. The club is currently 5-1-5 in league play at Papa Murphy's Park.
Rio Grande Valley FC (3-7-11, 20 points) arrive in Sacramento after falling 1-0 to Las Vegas Lights FC on the road, which marked their first loss since June 16. Aldo Quintanilla leads the club in both goals (4) and assists (3) this season.
