Over the past few weeks, several players from the 2014 USL Cup-winning team have made their way back to Sacramento as part of the club’s #5YearsofGlory celebrations. This Saturday, former SRFC forward Justin Braun will be joining the list to take part in a prematch meet-and-greet, as well as a chalk talk in the Market before kickoff.
Braun is known for scoring the opening goal of Republic FC history in the 33rd minute against LA Galaxy II on March 29, 2014. In what will be full circle, Braun will be attending SRFC’s match this Saturday against that very same opponent. The former club captain also has the honor of scoring the first-ever Republic FC goal at Bonney Field.
An MLS player for most of his career, Justin Braun joined Republic FC ahead of the inaugural season, appearing in 23 matches and starting in 19 while scoring six goals and recording 1,608 minutes of play. He earned his first spot on the USL Team of the Week during week two of the season, going on to be named again in Week 20. Braun went on to help the team win the championship that season.
