SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Today, UCP of Sacramento and Northern California announced the selection of Mr. Kevin Nagle as its 2019 Humanitarian of the Year. UCP is the region’s leading provider of comprehensive services to children and adults with developmental disabilities, serving 5,730 individuals per month in an eight-county area.
“Kevin has proven himself a visionary and a leader, both in business and in our community,” said Doug Bergman, President and CEO, UCP of Sacramento and Northern California. “Few individuals in our community have come from such humble roots and emerged to achieve such a deep and diversified impact on this region. We are honored to name him the 2019 Humanitarian of the Year.”
The award is Sacramento’s premier humanitarian award and is presented annually to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the Sacramento region and to enhancing the lives of others. UCP selected Mr. Nagle in light of his unique and diverse contributions as a business executive and philanthropist.
“I am humbled and honored by this award,” said Mr. Nagle. “UCP is an exemplary organization serving a critical and often overlooked need in our community. As a former health care executive and passionate advocate for Sacramento, I’ve long admired their commitment to a very worthy and noble mission.”
Mr. Nagle has donated millions of dollars to a variety of charitable organizations in the Sacramento region promoting health, education, youth development and the arts. He is the Board Chair of Saint Mary’s College of California, Board Member of St. HOPE Public Schools, Board of Advisors member of the UC Davis School of Medicine, and a Founding Member of the Greater Sacramento Area Economic Council.
Born into borderline poverty and raised by a single mother, Mr. Nagle built a remarkable career as a business executive, professional sports owner, investor, entrepreneur and philanthropist. As Sacramento resident since 1994, Mr. Nagle is currently Chairman and CEO of Sacramento Republic FC, where he has led the team’s pursuit of a Major League Soccer (MLS) expansion club and downtown MLS stadium since 2014. During his tenure as Lead Investor and owner, Republic FC has ranked among the highest-performing clubs in the United Soccer League (USL) and earned Sacramento status as a top finalist for an MLS expansion club.
Outside of Republic FC, Mr. Nagle spent thirteen years as the Co-Founder and former CEO of Envision Pharmaceutical Holdings, a pioneering pharmaceutical benefits management firm that Mr. Nagle and his partners sold in 2015 for a $2.3 billion. Mr. Nagle is also the largest local owner of the Sacramento Kings, which he helped purchase in 2013 after playing an instrumental role in rallying regional corporate support to prevent the team’s relocation to Anaheim in 2011 and Seattle in 2013. He is also an investor and board member in NRG Esports. Outside of sports, Mr. Nagle’s numerous holdings include Jaguar Ventures, a venture capital firm; Moneta Ventures, where he serves as a Board Member; and The Nagle Company, a real estate development firm whose portfolio includes El Dorado Hills Town Center and the Ice Blocks in downtown Sacramento.
UCP’s selection of Mr. Nagle occurs at a moment of transformation and growth for the organization, with plans to significantly expand its services to individuals with autism and their families. Based on research from the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute, UCP has developed the UCP Autism Center for Excellence after-school program using ABA therapy. UCP has also expanded its UCP Family Respite services to 1,800 families including the rural communities in El Dorado County—half of those families have a child under the age of ten, many of whom have autism.
Mr. Nagle will receive the award at a special ceremony in May 2019. The event is typically also UCP’s largest fundraiser of the year to support UCP’s range of programs and initiatives to empower individuals with development disabilities.
