TULSA, Okla. (Sept. 19, 2019) — Hayden Partain scored twice as Sacramento Republic FC downed Tulsa Roughnecks FC 4-1 in their visit to ONEOK Field on Wednesday night. The win moves Sacramento back up to fourth in the West as the club seeks a top-four finish in the season in the race to the playoffs.
The home side were the first to threaten when former Republic FC defender Nemanja Vukovic rose to head a corner kick in the 19th minute, but Josh Cohen made a superb save to deny the Roughnecks.
Republic FC opened the score immediately after with a screaming effort after a clearance from the Tulsa defense fell to Elliott Hord’s path outside of the box. The fullback ran onto the ball and smashed his effort past goalkeeper Chase Gentry to put Sacramento up 1-0 in the 20th minute.
Not to be outdone by Hord’s goal, Hayden Partain combined with Christian Eissele in the final third before striking an equally powerful effort from distance into the top left corner of the net in the 54th minute.
Tulsa pulled one back in the 64th minute when Vukovic converted from the spot after Emrah Klimenta tripped Michael Gamble in the box.
Cameron Iwasa made it 3-1 in the 68th minute after Villyan Bijev slipped a through ball to Jure Matjasic to spring him on goal. The second-half substitute squared a low ball across goal for Iwasa to tap in for his 14th goal of the season.
Partain then capped off a neat combination play to put the game away with ten minutes remaining. Keven Aleman clipped a ball to Iwasa in the box and the forward drew Gentry off his line before sliding a diagonal pass back toward Matjasic. The Slovenian made a feint to let the ball through to an on-rushing Partain who struck the ball into the side net.
The win moves Republic FC up to fourth in the Western Conference with five games remaining in the regular season. The top four teams in each conference host their first playoff match.
Sacramento is back in action on Sunday, September 22, against OKC Energy FC. Kickoff at Taft Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT. and the match will be broadcast on KQCA My58, Estrella TV and ESPN+.
