SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento Republic FC defender Juan Barahona has been named to El Salvador's preliminary roster ahead of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, which will take place from June 15 to July 7. Barahona will join the national team for a pair of friendly matches before they kick off their Gold Cup campaign on June 17 against the Caribbean nation of Curaçao.
“We look forward to watching Juan as he competes in this summer’s Gold Cup,” said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. “He continues to play in high-level matches for his country and that experience will be an extremely valuable addition to our group.”
El Salvador will face off against Haiti on June 2 in Washington, D.C., before flying to Japan to face their national team on June 9, as part of the Central American country’s pre-tournament preparations.
Republic FC signed Barahona earlier this month from Salvadoran club Santa Tecla where the 23-year-old defender won four league titles in six years. Born in the capital city of San Salvador, Barahona has 20 caps for the El Salvador Men’s National Team, including five World Cup qualifiers.
