A stellar performance against San Antonio FC has earned midfielder Sam Werner a spot on Week 13's USL Championship Team of the Week. This is the first time Werner has been named to the TOTW and he's the third Republic FC player to earn TOTW honors this season.
Werner played a key role in the 2-1 win over San Antonio FC to help Republic FC get back to winning ways in the USL Championship. In the 78th minute, Werner sent a low cross into the 18-yard box and a miscommunication between San Antonio's Matt Cardone and Joshua Yaro saw the latter put the ball into the back of his own net.
Five minutes later, Werner extended the lead with a beautifully placed shot right into the upper lefthand corner of the goal and out of reach for San Antonio's goalkeeper. The goal is currently in the running for USL Goal of the Week and you can vote through Thursday.

The 23-year-old midfielder provided match-winning goals against Fresno FC in USL Championship play and then in the Second Round of the Open Cup against Reno 1868 FC. Werner also provided the assist to Stefano Bonomo's match-winner against Fresno FC in the Third Round of the Open Cup.
