Sacramento Republic FC is partnering with the Sacramento LGBT Community Center to host Pride Night on Saturday, June 22, when the club takes on Tulsa Roughnecks FC. The annual event held during Pride Month celebrates the local LGBTQ+ community that helps make Sacramento one of the most diverse and welcoming cities in the nation.
“Celebrating our community and promoting equality are founding principles of our club,” said Ben Gumpert, Republic FC President & COO. “We’re proud to continue our partnership with the Sacramento LGBT Community Center to celebrate Pride Night again this season.”
As part of Republic FC’s partnership with the Sacramento LGBT Community Center, fans can purchase a special ticket package that includes admission to the match and a limited edition Sacramento Pride x Republic FC scarf. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the nonprofit.
In a show of support for Pride, Republic FC’s team captain will don a special pride-themed armband during the game, while many players will wear rainbow-colored laces. The pitch will also feature pride-themed corner flags.
Additionally, three Republic FC players—goalkeeper Josh Cohen, midfielder Sam Werner and defender Dekel Keinan—are participating in Playing for Pride, a nationwide fundraiser for Athlete Ally during Pride Month. The nonprofit raises funds to level the playing field for LGBT Equality in the athletic community. Each player is donating to the nonprofit based on their game performances during the month of June (e.g., $20 for every goal/assist made). Many fans and front office members have committed to matching donations as well.
