Earlier this week, Republic FC announced the promotion of Academy Director and U-19 head coach Mark Briggs to the head coach of United Soccer League Championship side, Sacramento Republic FC.
His previous role may have been with the youngsters, but the former 2017 USL Coach of the Year has plenty of experience, and success, with the first teams. During his 2017 campaign with Real Monarchs, Briggs’ squad were, well, indomitable. Now that Briggs is bringing his passion for the game to the Indomitable Club, it will be interesting to see if he can have similar success in Sacramento.

1 – One trophy and one playoff berth. Sure, one might not seem like a lot but Monarchs had won zero trophies and played in zero postseason matches prior to Briggs taking control of head coaching duties. It’s safe to say he built the foundation for the success Monarchs is still seeing to this day.
66 – His winning percentage of 66% indicates Briggs as a boss is victorious in two-thirds of all his USL matches.
67 – Number of points Briggs’ 2017 Monarchs team earned during the regular season, two points shy of the record set by NY Red Bulls II in 2016 (69). Rising FC has since broken that record.
22 – Number of wins which was two off from the all-time wins record at the time, held by NY Red Bulls II, and later broken by Phoenix as well.
9 – Number of consecutive wins in a season, which at the time set a USL Championship record before the streak was broken the following season. The club won nine straight during a 14 game stretch where Briggs' side lost just one match.
11 – Clean sheets kept by Monarchs over the course of the 2017 campaign, including three straight in late-September and four shutouts from five (9/9/17 through 9/30/17).
32 – Number of goals allowed during the 2017 regular season campaign, good enough for third best in the entire USL.
14 – The number of matches into the season before his side were shutout by an opposition.
