The streak is now up to ten straight games that the Indomitable Club have not been defeated following Saturday night’s 1-1 draw against Reno 1868 FC in Nevada.
Republic FC fell behind just before the break but defender Dekel Keinan’s 51st minute header – the first goal of his Sacramento career – ensured both sides would share the spoils over the weekend. The defender’s performance earned him a spot on the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 14.

The draw did not eliminate Mark Briggs’ men from a shot at the top spot in Group A and the boys in Old Glory Red can claim first place if the squad wins its last two remaining matches and Reno loses its final two fixtures. The Indomitable Club travel to Tacoma Defiance this Wednesday night while 1868 FC host Las Vegas Lights FC midweek before heading to Tacoma to take on Defiance for its regular season finale. Republic FC will end the regular season at home against Portland Timbers 2 this Saturday night at Papa Murphy’s Park.

The winner of Group A will host the second-place team from Group B while Group A’s runner-up will travel to the top side from Group B – likely Phoenix Rising FC. The Arizonan club is currently six points at the summit with 29 points and needs just one point over its last two matches to solidify first. LA Galaxy II and San Diego Loyal SC both have 23 points, but Los Dos has a game in-hand as well as an advantage for the first tiebreaker with more total wins. Orange County SC is still very much in contention with 21 points through 14 contests and can leapfrog LA with a win against its fellow SoCal club this Wednesday night in Carson. On the same night, San Diego host Phoenix for Loyal SC’s final game of the regular season.
El Paso Locomotive and New Mexico United have already secured their spots in the 2020 postseason but the race for first in Group C is not over yet. Three points over two matches is all Locomotive FC need to lock down first place but United are only four points behind El Paso so two victories could still be enough to earn a home game in the opening round of the playoffs for New Mexico.
Group C’s runner up will travel to Group D winner San Antonio FC for a first-round postseason matchup after SAFC conquered its group well before the end of the regular season. Second place in the group is still very much up for grabs between Austin Bold FC and FC Tulsa as both clubs sit on 19 points but the side from the Sooner State has a slight advantage with a game in-hand.
In the east, Louisville City FC recently locked down first place in Group E while Indy Eleven – 23 points from 14 games – and Saint Louis FC – 22 points from 15 games – are still in contention for second. Indy host Kansas City II on Wednesday before finishing the season in a pivotal final bout for the last playoff spot in the group – a Saturday night trip to Saint Louis with potentially everything to play for. However, if Indy win on Wednesday, Eleven will ensure its place in the playoffs before the weekend finale.
Group F currently has Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on top with 31 points from 15 matches but Hartford Athletic is hot on Pittsburgh’s tail with 29 points from 14 matches. Both clubs are a lock for the playoffs but Hartford still has a shot to steal first with two consecutive wins to close out the year.
As both teams sit on 25 points through 15 fixtures, Birmingham Legion FC and Charlotte Independence have left it until the final game of the regular season to determine which side will win Group G. Legion visit Pittsburgh on Saturday while North Carolina FC host Independence the very same day. North Carolina is on 16 points from 13 games but its Oct. 4 game against Loudoun United has been cancelled due to COVID.
Charleston Battery can still conquer Group H but need to travel to the top team in the group and hold them to a draw or hand them a defeat. Battery will visit first place Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday for TB’s regular season finale but first, Charleston must visit The Miami FC on Wednesday prior to the weekend’s heavyweight bout away from home.

There’s been no shortage of entertainment on the pitch this season in MLS and fans are hoping to expect to see even more quality soccer in the top domestic league in 2020 after Inter Miami CF signed prolific goal scorer Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus last week. The Argentine who has plied his trade for some of the most renown clubs in the world’s beautiful game including The Old Lady of Italy, Napoli, River Plate and Real Madrid.
Higuain made his debut for Inter Miami over the weekend and missed a penalty kick in his sides’ 3-0 loss to Philadelphia Union. Had the decorated striker netted from the spot, he would have cut the deficit in half to 2-1 but instead was unable to etch his name on the scoresheet in his inaugural MLS match.
While Union continue to sit towards the top of the Eastern Conference standings, only Columbus Crew SC has been the better side in the entire league with 30 points. However, Columbus was handed a 3-1 loss on the road over the weekend at the hands of Toronto FC. TFC will look to make it three wins in a row when Union come to town this coming weekend.
In the Western Conference, Seattle Sounders FC and Portland Timbers both sit at the summit with 24 points and both Pacific Northwest clubs collected key wins on the road over the weekend. Portland’s Felipe Mora netted early to help his side escape Vancouver with a 1-0 win over Whitecaps FC while Seattle snuck three goals by LA Galaxy for a 3-1 win as Jordan Morris found the back of the net and Cristian Roldan bagged a brace.

Three fixtures were on Saturday’s slate this past weekend with one clash providing some nail-biting late-game drama.
Chicago Red Stars and Washington Spirit played to a 1-1 draw with both strikes coming late in the second half. Chicago’s Savannah McCaskill beat the Washington goalkeeper in the 72nd minute but Crystal Thomas managed to save Spirit in the 88th minute to ensure both sides would share the spoils. Both Chicago and Washington sit at the top of the table with four points through three games each.
A four-goal first half saw Utah Royals and OL Reign each earn a point in the standings as Utah’s Aminata Diallo and Tziarra King scored for the hosts while Bethany Balcer and Rosie White netted for Reign. Houston Dash was the lone team to earn a victory over the weekend following a 3-1 win over Orlando Pride.
OL Reign have a quick turnaround with a midweek matchup against Portland Thorns on Wednesday night. Thorns themselves have another fixture just days later when Portland visits Royals for a Saturday night showdown. Washington also returns to action this weekend against Sky Blue on Saturday while Houston hosts North Carolina Courage on Sunday afternoon.
