Cam Iwasa – 8.15 #SACvTAC
In the 33rd minute against Tacoma Defiance at Papa Murphy’s Park, Villyan Bijev selflessly laid the ball off to an open Cameron Iwasa who wasted no time slamming his shot by the visiting goalkeeper to collect his 50th career goal during USL Championship play. The Sacramento-native is now one of just ten players in league history to hit the half century mark.
Mario Penagos – 9.2 #PORvSAC
With the game knotted at nil-nil, 18-year-old Mario Penagos entered the match as a second half substitute and momentarily sealed a stunning win for Mark Briggs’ men in the 87th minute. Cameron Iwasa – who earlier in the season scored his 50th career goal – opted to lay the ball off to the Republic FC Youth Academy product who steered his shot by the T2 goalkeeper and lift his side to a 1-0 lead with his first career goal with the SRFC first team.
Juju Chavez – 9.2 #PORvSAC
Minutes after Mario Penagos gave the Indomitable Club a late lead, the hosts managed to equalize and thought they had earned a point at home, but Julian Chavez had other plans. The 18-year-old became Republic FC’s youngest player to score a goal in club history when the SRFC Youth Academy product fired home a left-footed curling effort with the last kick of the game to beat the T2 goalkeeper and steal three points for Mark Briggs’ men at the death.
Villyan Bijev – 9.9 #SACvOC
The boys in Old Glory Red – playing with just 10-men – fell behind at home against the SoCal club before clawing their way back and equalizing late in the second half, but with just three minutes of regulation left before stoppage time Villyan Bijev bagged the game-winning goal to ensure all three points in the standings were headed to Sacramento. The SRFC winger fired a shot that kissed the inside of the woodwork and by the OSCS GK for a dramatic victory.
Villyan Bijev – 10.3 #SACvPOR
It was the last goal of the regular season for the boys in Old Glory Red and perhaps the squad saved its best for last when Villyan Bijev struck a spectacular curling strike to round out a 4-0 win over T2. The Bulgarian-born winger worked his way with the ball towards the top of the box then connected with a pure and powerful left-footed strike that sliced its way into the top far corner of the net.
