On Wednesday, the 2021 Concacaf Champions League draw was announced, and the bracket included four Liga MX clubs – Club America, Club Leon, Cruz Azul and CF Monterrey.
Competing against the Mexican clubs as well as clubs from Canada, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua are four squads representing Major League Soccer – Atlanta United FC, Columbus Crew SC, Philadelphia Union and Portland Timbers. Toronto FC has a shot to join the continental competition if it can beat Forge FC on an upcoming date to be announced.
If Toronto advances, it will take on Liga-MX title-holders Club Leon. All four other MLS clubs have a confirmed opponent as Crew SC get handed Real Esteli FC (Nicaragua), Union will play Deportivo Saprissa (Costa Rica), Atlanta will take on another fellow Costa Rican club Liga Deportiva Alajuense, and Timbers draw CD Marathon (Honduras). All MLS clubs will play the opening leg outside of the states on April 6-8.
