On this week’s episode of The Breakaway Live podcast, Republic FC head coach Mark Briggs answered some fan questions live on Facebook as the club heads into training camp in the next few weeks.
Briggs talked about the expectations he has for the players coming into training camp and explained how to ensure players have the right mentality immediately starting at camp.
“We’ve had conversations with the players before they arrive, Briggs says, “You explain what you are looking for individually and collectively and then explain the standards are. It’s like anything, words only carry so much weight, I have to show it once they are here.”

The gaffer also touched on the roster and the various weapons he has in his arsenal that will provide a different dimension to the club’s gameplay in 2021.
“There’s a system that’s going to be in play and last year we played a lot of 4-3-3,” Briggs says. “You could see that or you could see something a bit different, a little bit more aggressive, and more on the front foot that’s going to excite people and utilize the strengths of the players we brought in.
After asking a few fan questions, Briggs gave his thoughts on the new division alignment that the league announced this week and how the talent in the division excites him for the club to have to bring their best every match.
“I love it. Out of all divisions, I would probably say ours is the hardest,” Briggs states. “It’s a difficult group, but after experiencing what we did last year, I’d prefer us to be in a difficult group. I’d prefer us to have a challenge every week. I’d prefer us to be against the best because when you are successful and you have played the best teams nobody can question you.”
