This Saturday, Sacramento travels to Utah to take on MLS side Real Salt Lake at noon in SRFC’s first test of the preseason. The match will be open to fans in a limited capacity. RSL finished the 2020 Major League Soccer season in 11th place in the Western Conference – eight points shy of sealing a spot in the postseason. The club did manage to advance to the knockout stage of the MLS is Back Tournament in July before falling 5-2 to San Jose Earthquakes.

The Quakes will be another one of Republic FC’s preseason opponents when SRFC travels to Silicon Valley on April 2 for a closed-door friendly. San Jose secured the eighth and final playoff spot for the 2020 MLS postseason but were bounced in the opening round by Sporting Kansas City after penalty kicks. The playoff clash was a six-goal thriller but Sporting advanced to the next round after outscoring the Quakes 3-0 after penalty kicks. Mark Briggs’ men will also take on San Jose’s U23-side with a date and time to be announced in the near future.
Another closed-door scrimmage Sacramento has in store during the 2021 preseason is against USL-newcomers, Oakland Roots SC. Roots boasts a pair of familiar faces – both on the pitch and on the sideline – as former SRFC striker Tyler Blackwood recently joined Roots SC and former Republic FC Youth Academy Coach Jordan Farrell is Oakland’s Technical Director. The boys in Old Glory Red will also be the visitors for Oakland’s first-ever league home opener during Championship play on Saturday, June 19.
Last but certainly not least, Republic FC will return home for preseason play on April 24 when the club will not only welcome Real Monarchs to town for a noon friendly, but fans will be welcome to attend the match as well. Upon approval, SRFC will open select seating exclusively to Indomitable Members.
