Republic FC and Tacoma Defiance will meet this week for their first of four contests this season. The Indomitable club will look to notch consecutive victories for the first time since May and secure at least a point in their third straight match. Tacoma has emerged victorious only once since the start of July.
In an inter-division meeting between first place teams, Phoenix took down Rio Grande Valley 3-1 to widen their division lead to seven points. San Diego Loyal inched closer to second place with a win over LA Galaxy II, while Tacoma came away with a point in a scoreless draw against New Mexico United in Inter-division play.

The USL Championship’s Game of the Week on ESPN2 returns with a Pacific Division matchup between first place Phoenix Rising and Oakland Roots SC.
Phoenix Rising enters as possibly the hottest team in the league. The club has won five of their last six games, outscoring their opponents 15-3 over that span. Coming off a convincing 3-1 victory over Rio Grande Valley, the Arizona club will look to remain dangerous on the offensive end in their first of two road matches.
Oakland Roots has struggled mightily this season, but will look to upset the Pacific Division leader at home for their first win since May 23. The Bay Area side is certainly due for some success, as they have scored just once since June 2.

After a tough July that saw them drop two straight contests to New Mexico United and San Antonio, Switchbacks FC looks to be back on an upward trend after playing to a draw with Central Division leader Louisville City and securing their first win since an Independence Day victory over Real Monarchs. A win could shoot them as high as third place pending the result of San Antonio FC’s meeting with first place El Paso Locomotive.
Austin Bold FC will look to get back into the win column against their Colorado foes. After securing points in each of their previous four matches, the Texas squad fell to San Antonio in a spirited rematch of the two clubs’ first meeting of the year in June.

White-hot Pittsburgh looks to keep their momentum after claiming first place in the Atlantic Division from Tampa Bay Rowdies over the weekend. Riverhounds has taken three straight and claimed points in five consecutive matches dating to July 3.
Charleston will be looking to upset the new division leader and get back into the win column after falling to Miami in a 3-2 result on Sunday. Battery has won three of their last five, and played Pittsburgh well in their first meeting of the season on July 7- a 1-1 draw at home that saw them hold a 1-0 advantage until Pittsburgh pulled even with just five minutes remaining.
