Sacramento, Calif. – On Tuesday, the USL Championship announced Republic FC’s Douglas Martínez Jr. was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week Bench for his performance during the club’s 2-1 win over FC Tulsa at Heart Health Park Sunday.
Martínez netted the equalizer in the first half for Republic FC. After Sacramento went down 1-0 just moments earlier, the forward received an excellent through ball from Rodrigo Lopez before being taken down in the box by a Tulsa defender. The Honduran converted the resultant penalty, marking his second score in three matches to open the 2022 season.
The forward also finished the match with two shots and two chances created. He assisted the club’s 87th minute game-winning score, which came off the foot of defender Duke Lacroix, also his second of the year.
This is the eighth selection all-time for Martínez; he previously earned the honor in Week 1 after scoring the eventual game-winner against El Paso Locomotive FC. He was named to Team of the Week six times during the 2019 season, when he featured with Real Monarchs SLC.
Republic FC is back in action this Saturday, when the club hosts Monterey Bay FC for their first regular season visit to Heart Health Park, and the first match of a three-game home stand. Kickoff for the contest is set for 7:00 p.m., and the match will be broadcast live on FOX40, FOX40.com and the FOX 40 App, and streamed live on ESPN+.
