Sacramento, Calif. – On Tuesday, the USL Championship announced Republic FC’s Damià Viader was named to the Week 6 Team of the Week Bench for his performance in the club’s 1-1 draw with Orange County SC on April 16.
Making his USL Championship debut, Viader (Vee-ah-dare) netted the club’s only goal of the match in just the second minute of play. As Sacramento looked to build out of the back following a goal kick, the midfielder streaked down the left wing unmarked before fielding a perfectly placed long-ball from Dan Casey. After making a move on the goalkeeper, the Spaniard put the ball in the back of an open net to put Republic FC up 1-0.
The score was his first in USL Championship competition and his second of the 2022 season. He previously found the net in his club debut on April 7, a U.S. Open Cup match against Portland Timbers U23 at Heart Health Park.
This is Viader’s first selection to the league’s top squad in the USL Championship. Featuring for Union Omaha last season, he was named to the USL League One Team of the Week seven times and was voted the September Player of the Month for his performance in the club’s run to the USL League One playoffs.
Republic FC is back in action this Wednesday when the club hosts Central Valley Fuego FC in the Third Round of the 107th Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Heart Health Park. Kickoff for the contest is set for 7:30 p.m., and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Tickets are available at SacRepublicFC.com/single-match-tickets.
