Earlier today, the USL Championship announced that Republic FC’s Danny Vitiello was nominated for Fan’s Choice Save of the Week for Week 11. Voting is open now at USLChampionship.com through Friday, May 27 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
After moving into the penalty area and finding space free from Sacramento defenders, El Paso’s Luis Solignac looked to double his club’s advantage in the final moments of the match, challenging Sacramento’s keeper after receiving a ball inside from Diego Luna. Vitiello sprawled out at the last second, stopping the attempt from point-blank range with his fingertips and keeping his club’s deficit at one. The save allowed Sacramento one last chance to equalize in the final moments, where Luther Archimede came inches from finding the net.
This is the Vitiello’s seventh career nomination for the weekly honor, and his second this season. He last was up for the award in Week 7 following Sacramento’s trip to Rio Grande Valley FC on April 23.
Voting for the award is open now at USL Championship.com, and closes at 9:00 a.m. PT on Friday, May 27.
