Sacramento, Calif. – On Tuesday, the USL Championship announced Republic FC’s Luis Felipe was named to the league’s Team of the Week for Week 12 for his performance in the club’s 1-1 draw with Oakland Roots.
For the second match in a row, across all competitions, the midfielder netted the opening score in Sacramento’s second regional derby match in four days. After receiving a no-look pass from Luther Archimede off a corner kick right in front of goal, he punched it through for his third score in four matches and his first in league play this season.
In addition to his score, Luis Felipe was excellent in the midfield for Sacramento, completing 83% of his passing attempts and winning possession a team high four times. On the defensive end, he paced the club with five successful tackles and intercepted four passes.
This is Luis Felipe’s first Team of the Week selection of 2022, and his fifth as a member of Republic FC. Last season, he earned the honor four times, including in a Week 24 performance against Tacoma Defiance that also saw him net Goal of the Week honors.
Republic FC is back in action this Saturday at Heart Health Park, when San Antonio FC makes its only trip to Sacramento this season. Alongside the match the club will hold its annual Pride Night celebration, which will include the unveiling of a merchandise collection benefitting the LGBT Community Center, and the presentation of a $1,000 scholarship to a local student. Kickoff for the contest is set for 8:00 p.m., and the match will be broadcast live on FOX40, FOX40.com and the FOX40 App, and streaming on ESPN+.
