Earlier today, the USL Championship announced that Republic FC’s Damia Viader was nominated for Fan’s Choice Goal of the Week for Week 14. Voting is open now at USLChampionship.com through Thursday, June 16 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
Just ten minutes after the opening whistle, Viader took possession of an errant clearance from Detroit’s back line. With no man pressing him and plenty of space to work with, the Spaniard pushed forward into the attacking third before unleashing a powerful rocket from distance, catching Detroit goalkeeper Nate Steinwascher by surprise and finding the back of the net. The goal – Viader’s second this season – proved to be the eventual game winner as the club went on to log their second consecutive clean sheet performance.
This is Viader’s first career nomination for the weekly honor and the first for a Republic FC player in 2022. In 2021, Republic FC was nominated six times, the most recent being Luis Felipe in Week 24 against Tacoma Defiance.
