SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After an undefeated June that saw Republic FC go 5-0-0 across all competitions and advance to the U.S. Open Cup semifinals, the club’s performances have continued getting league-wide recognition. Republic FC’s Damia Viader has been nominated for Fan’s Choice Goal of the Month for his 10th minute long distance strike on June 11 against Detroit City FC. Voting is open now at USLChampionship.com and will run through Monday, July 11 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
The Spaniard’s score – his second of the season – ended up as the eventual game winner for Sacramento and would be voted as the Week 14 Goal of the Week. After controlling an errant clearance, Viader wound up and put a perfectly placed shot inside the right post to open the scoring for Sacramento’s shutout victory at Keyworth Stadium. The score also landed him a spot on the Week 14 Team of the Week alongside teammates Lee Desmond and Rodrigo Lopez.
This is Viader’s first nomination for the league’s monthly honor, and the first for a Sacramento player this season. In 2021, Republic FC midfielders Luis Felipe and Julian Chavez each took home Goal of the Month honors for spectacular strikes from distance, with Chavez winning the September vote and Luis Felipe winning the October vote.
Voting for June’s goal of the month is open now at USLChampionship.com, and runs through Monday, July 11 at 9:00 a.m. PT. Viader and Republic FC will return to the pitch this Saturday at Heart Health Park, when the club takes on Oakland Roots SC on Salute to Service night presented by FOX 40. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m., and tickets are available at SacRepublicFC.com/single-match-tickets.
