Earlier today, the USL Championship announced that Luis Felipe’s stoppage time equalizer against Oakland Roots SC on July 9 has been voted Fan’s Choice Goal of the Week for Week 18.
Republic FC had their backs to the wall as time ticked down against their NorCal foes. Down a score and with just enough time for one final attack, Sacramento pushed forward for one last opportunity in the final minute of stoppage time. Crashing the net, the midfielder got a head on Rodrigo Lopez’s cross, putting it over the line to steal a point away from Oakland Roots at the death. The score was Luis Felipe’s fifth of the season, matching his 2021 total, and second in league play this season.
The broadcast call of the score made by Republic FC TV play-by-play man Rob McAllister was also named one of the USL Championship’s Cleer Audio Calls of the Week.
The midfielder’s win of the weekly vote marks the second time a Republic FC score has been named Goal of the Week this season. Damia Viader won the Week 14 honor for his 10th minute strike against Detroit City FC on June 11. Luis Felipe also took home the honor twice in 2021 for scores in Weeks 15 and 24.
Republic FC is back in action this weekend when the club welcomes Birmingham Legion FC to Heart Health Park. Saturday’s contest is the first match to coincide with California State Fair since 2019. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and use their ticket to enter the State Fair to avoid lines and parking changes. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. and tickets to the match are available at SacRepublicFC.com/single-match-tickets. The match will be broadcast live on FOX40, Antenna TV 40.2, FOX40.com and the FOX 40 App, and streamed live on ESPN+.
