SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Earlier today, the USL Championship announced that Luis Felipe’s last second equalizer against Oakland Roots SC on July 9 has been nominated for Fans’ Choice Goal of the Month. Voting for the award is open now at USLChampionship.com through Monday, August 8 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
The midfielder’s goal in the final seconds put a bow on a back-and-forth match for Sacramento against their regional rivals. On the club’s final attacking opportunity in stoppage time, he charged forward with perfect timing to head through a cross from Rodrigo Lopez, who beat a defender in the corner after fielding a long ball down the right flank. The score gave Sacramento a crucial point in the standings and also earned him Goal of the Week Honors following a fan vote.
This is Luis Felipe’s first nomination for the honor this season, the second of his career, and the second for a Sacramento player in 2022. In 2021, he took home Goal of the Month honors for October for a spectacular goal against Tacoma Defiance. In June, defender Damia Viader won the monthly honor for a long-range strike against Detroit City FC.
Voting for July’s goal of the month is open now at USLChampionship.com, and runs through Monday, August 8 at 9:00 a.m. PT. Republic FC will return to the pitch this Saturday at Heart Health Park, when Republic FC take on Rio Grande Valley FC at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are still available at SacRepublicFC.com/single-match-tickets, and all attendees to the match will receive a poster commemorating the club’s U.S. Open Cup semifinal win over Sporting Kansas City on July 27.
