On Monday, the USL Championship announced that Luis Felipe’s goal on July 9 vs. Oakland Roots SC at Heart Health Park was voted as Fans’ Choice Goal of the Month for July 2022.
The midfielder’s score equalized for Sacramento at the death to secure a draw in Week 18. With the end of the match approaching in stoppage time, he charged forward as Sacramento looked to create one last chance. After Rodrigo Lopez beat a defender in the corner, he sent in a perfect cross to Luis Felipe who headed it through for the third score of the evening, his second of the year against Sacramento’s Bay Area rivals, and his fifth goal of the season across all competitions.
The score took 42% of the vote, beating out Charleston Battery’s AJ Paterson (34%), Phoenix Rising FC’s Aodhan Quinn (13%), Louisville City FC’s Brian Ownby (7%) and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC’s Hadji Barry (4%).
This is Luis Felipe’s second time taking the honor with Republic FC. He previously wonthe fan vote for October 2021 for a long-distance strike against Tacoma Defiance. The score is the club’s second this season to be nominated for Goal of the Month after DamiaViader’s long-distance score against Detroit City FC was up for the June award.
Luis Felipe and Republic FC are back in action this Saturday from Cardinale Stadium in Seaside, CA, when they take on Monterey Bay F.C. for the final time this season. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m., and the match will be broadcast live on Antenna TV 40.2, FOX40.com and the FOX40 App, and Streaming on ESPN+.
