Sacramento, Calif. – On Tuesday, the USL Championship announced Republic FC defender Conor Donovan was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 25.
Donovan netted the eventual game-winner for Republic FC this past Saturday, as the club defeated regional rival Oakland Roots SC at Heart Health Park. His score in the 21st minute off a Rodrigo Lopez corner kick was his second of the season, and first since he netted the equalizer for the Indomitable club in their April 23 meeting with Rio Grande Valley FC.
The North Carolina native also helped Republic FC’s back line to its eighth clean sheet of the season, and second in three matches. He finished the match with five interceptions and five clearances, while winning three of three one-on-one duels. For the season, Donovan has started every contest in which the club has held a shutout, including U.S. Open Cup matches.
Donovan’s selection is his first since joining Republic FC before the start of the season, and the third of his career. He is the 14th Republic FC player to earn a Team of the Week selection this season.
Republic FC is back in action this Saturday, September 3 on the road against Eastern Conference leader Louisville City FC. The match is set to kick off at 4:30 PM, and will be broadcast live on Antenna TV 40.2, FOX40.com and the FOX40 News mobile app, as well as streaming on ESPN+. Following the match, the club will head south to Florida for the U.S. Open Cup Final against Orlando City SC at Exploria Stadium on Wednesday, September 7.
