Earlier today, the USL Championship announced that Republic FC’s Danny Vitiello was nominated for Fan’s Choice Save of the Week for Week 25. Voting is open now at USLChampionship.com through Friday, September 2 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
As Sacramento fended off second-half pressure from their NorCal neighbors, Vitiello came up with a big-time stop to keep the club’s advantage. Pushing ahead, Oakland sent the ball along to forward Dariusz Formella, who turned around a shot on a tough angle. With a leaping denial, Vitiello sent the Polish striker’s attempt over the bar for an Oakland corner kick, keeping Sacramento’s clean sheet intact.
This is Vitiello’s ninth career nomination for the weekly honor, and his fourth this season after being nominated in Week 7, Week 11, and Week 18.
