Earlier today, the USL Championship announced that Republic FC goalkeeper Carlos Saldaña’s 50th minute save against Louisville City FC was voted the Week 26 Fan’s Choice Save of the Week.
The close-range stop kept Sacramento’s deficit to one – coming out of the break, Louisville City FC was pushing hard up top to extend their advantage. But Republic FC’s keeper had other plans. After a cross came into traffic in front of goal, Louisville’s Wilson Harris found himself with an excellent opportunity from point-blank range. The Vallejo native laid out to deny the attempt from just feet away, his second of three saves on the night.
Saldaña’s win is his first in USL Championship, and the second consecutive week a Republic FC keeper has made the week’s top stop. Teammate Danny Vitiello won the weekly vote just last week for a leaping denial against Oakland Roots SC on August 27.
