Earlier today, the USL Championship announced that Maalique Foster’s 28th minute score against Orange County SC on September 18 has been nominated for Goal of the Week. Voting for the award is open now at USLChampionship.com through Thursday, September 22 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
The Jamaican’s first of two goals on the afternoon came just before the half-hour mark as Sacramento pushed forward in transition. After winning possession on the right, Jack Gurr sent the ball along to Rodrigo Lopez, who threaded it between defenders and into the middle of the pitch. Foster left multiple visiting defenders in the dust and beat the goalkeeper to the ball before putting it through to put his club up 3-0.
Foster’s nomination is the first of his career, and the second consecutive nomination for the club. Defender Jack Gurr took last week’s honor for his left-footed score against Loudon United on September 10. Republic FC won the honor on two other occasions this season, with Damia Viader taking the Week 14 honor and Luis Felipe taking the Week 18 honor.
Republic FC is back in action next Saturday, when the squad travels to Texas to face San Antonio FC. The match kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on Antenna TV 40.2, FOX40.com and the FOX40 News mobile app, as well as streaming on ESPN+. The club will then return home on Wednesday, September 28, when Phoenix Rising comes to town for Noche Latina Powered by SMUD. Kickoff from Heart Health Park is set for 7:00 p.m. and tickets are available at SacRepublicFC.com/Tickets.
