Today, the USL Championship announced that Republic FC’s Danny Vitiello was nominated for Fan’s Choice Save of the Week for Week 28. Voting is open now at USLChampionship.com through Friday, September 23 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
After Sacramento added two early goals against Orange County SC on Sunday, the visitors set up a good scoring opportunity for OC’s Milan Iloski. The USL Championship Golden Boot leader sent a curling shot to the near post, but Vitiello was quick to react and pushed the ball out of play. The save secured Republic FC’s 10th clean sheet in league play and a 2nd consecutive 4-0 win.
Vitiello’s nomination makes him the 5th Republic FC player to be recognized across the league for his performance in last Saturday’s win. Earlier this week, USL Championship named teammates Maalique Foster, Damia Viader, Duke Lacroix, and Keko to the league’s Team of the Week – with Foster earning his second Goal of the Week Nomination on the year. Voting for GOTW is open now at USLChampionship.com through Thursday, September 22 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
This is Vitiello’s 5th Save of the Week Nomination this season and a 6th time this year that a Sacramento goalkeeper has been up for the weekly top stop, with Vitiello and Carlos Saldaña taking back-to-back wins in Weeks 25 & 26.
Republic FC is back in action this Saturday, when the squad travels to Texas to face San Antonio FC. The match kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast in English and Spanish on Antenna TV 40.2, FOX40.com and the FOX40 News mobile app, as well as streaming on ESPN+. The Indomitable Club will then return home on September 28 for Noche Latina Powered by SMUD. Tickets are available at SacRepublicFC.com/Tickets.
