This year’s season opener marks the sixth time that Republic FC has kicked off league play on the road, with an away record of three wins, one loss, and one draw. In nine previous seasons, the club has taken home points in its season opener eight times, with five wins and three draws, while only losing once. Sacramento and El Paso also opened the 2022 season against each other, with Republic FC playing host in a 3-1 win at Heart Health Park.
In December, USL Championship announced the competition structure and conference alignment for the 2023 season. The league’s 24 teams will be divided into two conferences, creating a balanced 12 in the Eastern Conference and 12 in the Western Conference. A 34-game regular season will be played from March 11 to Oct. 14, 2023. Each team will play each of its conference foes twice – once at home, once away. The remaining 12 games of the season will be played against teams from the opposing conference, with six games at home and six away. This will result in every team in the league squaring off for the first time since the USL Championship instituted a two-conference format in 2015.
On January 14-15, Republic FC will host its annual Open Tryouts, presented by Western Health Advantage, for players who want to be evaluated by the club’s technical staff. At least one player from the Open Tryout will be invited to join first team training camp in February for a chance to earn a professional contract. Since the club’s inception, five players have signed professional contracts with the club, with a pair of players who would go on to represent Haiti and Montenegro in international competition. Interested players can RSVP at SacRepublicFC.com/Tryouts.
Republic FC will open Training Camp on February 1. Additional roster transactions, preseason matches and club announcements will be released in the coming weeks.
