Sacramento, Calif. – On Tuesday, the USL Championship announced that Republic FC’s Luis Felipe has been named to the league’s Team of the Week. The midfielder scored the game-winner in the club’s 1-0 win over San Diego Loyal SC on Saturday, March 25 at Heart Health Park.
Luis Felipe was excellent for the club on both ends of the pitch as Sacramento recorded a clean sheet victory and extended its unbeaten streak to three matches. His 40th minute goal came off a Rodrigo Lopez free kick, heading it through for his first goal of the 2023 season. In addition to his score, he completed 83% of his passes and won 6 of 14 one-on-one duels. He won the ball twice for Sacramento in the final third and created one additional scoring chance.
The selection is his fifth as a member of Republic FC and the sixth of his USL Championship career. It marks the third week in a row Republic FC has been represented on the league’s weekly top squad after Russell Cicerone in Week 1, and Rodrigo Lopez and Jack Gurr in Week 2.
Republic FC is back in action this Saturday, April 1 when 2022 Eastern Conference Champion Louisville City FC makes its first ever visit to Heart Health Park. Kickoff for the contest is set for 7:00 p.m., and the match will be broadcast live on FOX40, Antenna TV 40.2, FOX40.com and the FOX40 App, and streaming on ESPN+.
