Today, the USL Championship announced that Republic FC Goalkeeper Danny Vitiello is nominated for Fan’s Choice Save of the Week for Week 20. Voting is open now through 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 28 at USLChampionship.com, as well as on Twitter, Instagram Stories, and the USL App.
Vitiello came up huge for his team just before the hour mark with back-to-back saves against New Mexico United’s leading goalscorer, Amando Moreno. After blocking Moreno’s first shot on a dive, Vitiello bounced right back up to deflect the rebound attempt over the crossbar for a corner.
This is Vitiello’s second nomination for the weekly league honor this season. He was previously up for the week’s top stop in Week 5 after shutting out defending USL Championship title winner San Antonio FC. He has also earned two Team of the Week selections during the 2023 campaign, and remains in the lead for the league’s Golden Glove Award, allowing just 0.74 goals per 90 minutes.
Republic FC returns home tomorrow night for a mid-week matchup at Heart Health Park against Phoenix Rising FC. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. and tickets are available at SacRepublicFC.com/tickets. The match will be broadcast on Fox40.com, Antenna TV 40.2 and ESPN+. The gates at Heart Health Park will open early for fans to join the club for a Women’s World Cup watch party as the two-time defending champion United States Women’s National Team takes on the Netherlands at 6:00 p.m. All attendees also can check out the festivities throughout the California State Fair and Food Festival for free as well.
