Sacramento, Calif – Earlier today, the USL Championship announced that Republic FC forward Zeiko Lewis’ 71st minute goal on August 19 vs. Loudoun United FC has been nominated for Fan’s Choice Goal of the Week for Week 24. Voting is open now through Thursday, August 24 at 9:00 a.m. PT at USL Championship.com and on the league’s social channels.
Lewis’s score proved to be the eventual winner for the club. After working out of pressure, Sacramento put the ball at the feet of midfielder Arnold Lopez, who threaded a perfect pass into Lewis at the top of the box. The Bermudan turned towards goal before sending a high-paced curling strike at goal past the outstretched dive of the opposing goalkeeper.
The honor marks the first time Lewis has been nominated for the league’s top strike since Week 9 of the 2021 season as a member of Charleston Battery. It is his first nomination for the league’s top strike with Republic FC. Sacramento’s squad has been nominated for Goal of the Week on seven previous occasions this season; Russell Cicerone won the Week 21 honor for a diving header against Las Vegas Lights FC on July 29.
Republic FC is back in action next Saturday, returning to the site of the club’s first-ever home game – Hughes Stadium – for a 10th Season Celebration Match against Orange County SC. Throughout the night, the club will celebrate its proud history and connection to the Sacramento community, while also recognizing and thanking those that have made it all possible – from players and coaches to fans and partners.
Beginning at 5:00 p.m., fans are invited to gather at nearby brewery Track 7 for pre-game festivities – including special appearances from former Republic FC players before joining Tower Bridge Battalion for the March to the Match at 6:30 p.m. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and limited tickets are still available at SacRepublicFC.com/Hughes. The match will also be broadcast live in English and Spanish on FOX40, FOX40.com and the FOX40 News mobile app, as well as streaming on ESPN+.
