Sacramento, Calif. – Earlier today, the USL Championship announced that Republic FC goalkeeper Carlos Saldaña’s 27th minute diving save against Oakland Roots SC on September 2 was voted Fan’s Choice Save of the Week for Week 26.
An all-out diving stop by the Vallejo native in the first half of last weeks match kept Republic FC’s 1-0 advantage over its rivals intact. It was one of six saves recorded by Saldaña in the club’s 1-0 win. Following the contest, he was named to the league’s Best XI for Week 26 for his performance in the club’s conference-leading 10th clean sheet in league play this season.
This is Saldaña’s second career win of the weekly fan vote. Last season, he took home the honor in Week 26 for a diving save against Louisville City FC – which went on to be voted the September Save of the Month and earn a nomination for 2022 USL Championship Save of the Year. It marks the first win of the weekly honor for a Republic FC goalkeeper since Week 28 in 2022.
Republic FC will return to the pitch on Saturday, September 16 when the club hosts El Paso Locomotive on Noche Latina powered by SMUD. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and tickets are available at SacRepublicFC.com/tickets. The match will also be broadcast live in English & Spanish on Antenna TV 40.2, FOX40.com, and the FOX40 News mobile app, as well as streaming on ESPN+.
