Sacramento, Calif. – Today, USL Championship announced that Republic FC goalkeeper Danny Vitiello has been nominated for Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 4. Voting is open now through 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 5 at USLChampionship.com. The winner will be announced later in the week and will be showcased during broadcasts across the league over the weekend.
As time ticked down late in the match, stellar effort from Vitiello denied Memphis 901 FC’s best chance of the game and kept Sacramento’s clean sheet intact. After the visitors pushed forward in transition, the ball made its way to a Memphis attacker in space at the top of the penalty area. With little time to react, a leaping effort from Vitiello kept the shot out of the net and the match scoreless. Republic FC would take the lead on a game-winning score by Jonathan Ricketts less than ten minutes later.
This is Vitiello’s first nomination for USL Championship Save of the Week this season. In 2023, he earned five nominations for the honor, winning the weekly vote in Week 30. Vitiello joins teammate Rodrigo Lopez in earning league honors for their performance against Memphis. The midfielder was selected for the USL Championship Week 4 Team of the Week after setting up the game-winning goal.
Voting is open now through 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 5 at USLChampionship.com.
